Illegality – an observationPublished on
Water charges – “I would expect them to deliberate on that and continue their work until such time as they bring forward their views and their recommendations to the Oireachtas. Clearly, you are not going to implement something that is illegal.” [contradicts EU law] Enda Kenny
Taxation of multinationals – Noonan attacks EU body over corporate tax plans – The Government fears the process would mean profits currently taxed in Ireland could in future be apportioned to other EU countries and taxed there.
“That’s a breach of the OECD principles,”
[Mr Noonan] appeared to suggest Ireland would delay the process in Brussels.
So it’s okay to disobey the EU when it comes to multinational taxation but we must comply when it comes to water charges. That’s clear now.
